The War on 3D Printing Begins

I’ve posted on the topic of 3D printing once before. The powers-that-be have gone completely hysterical over the now established fact that it is possible to print an operational firearm using 3D printing technology from plans distributed freely over the Internet. Predictably the US Government ordered the online plans to be taken down immediately as a violation of US export laws. The plans, however, are still up on several other sites not under the control of Defense Distributed. So the cat is now out of the bag, and it proves that gun control efforts will be futile. Either the government bans an emerging technology that sees daily use in dozens of legitimate manufacturing industries, or it licenses and regulates the 3D printing technology and discovers just how well licensing and policing photocopiers worked in the USSR. Hint: It didn’t.
